Embedded Systems Technology

Silhouette Studierender vor Tafel mit Programmiercode

The Embedded System Technology working group develops its fields of work from current issues relating to the use of embedded systems (ES). The focus here is on the increasing penetration of our everyday lives by intelligent products and solutions with embedded information processing and their networking, often referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT).

Many issues that are considered solved in traditional information technology are posed anew in this context. The working group deals with questions of how existing, fundamental technologies can be used in the context of embedded systems and the IoT. Research and development activities are combined with the training and further qualification of students and employees on current topics.

Research projects

PAVKA, the next research project in the ZIM funding line, is concerned with room-based person recognition using a multimodal approach based on AI analysis of audio and video data. The aim is to be able to retrofit more intelligent and energy-saving approaches to room automation for climate control in the classic building technology of existing functional buildings in the future.

Courses

The courses regularly offered by the working group can be found on Prof Akelbein's website.

We also regularly offer student projects on system development for the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes.
