Course outline

Global networking via the Internet, huge music databases and the control of mobile phones are just a few examples of the influence of computer science. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) computer science study programme enables students to contribute to the quality solution of information technology problems in almost all areas of application in a creative and independent manner. In six semesters, they learn solid technical and methodological basics of computer science as well as their application and implementation in industry and business. These skills are the basis for success in your entire professional life. The study programme is offered by the Faculty of Computer Science, one of the largest and most highly recommended computer science departments at German universities. This is demonstrated by its top positions in the relevant university rankings.

Entry Requirements

The study programme is not subject to admission restrictions (no NC), however, proof of completion of an online self-assessment must be provided for enrolment. Further information can be found here. Admission requirements include the following school-leaving qualifications

  • general higher education entrance qualification
  • subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification valid in Hesse
  • entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences valid in Hesse

Various competences and skills are required for a successful computer science course. These include

  • mathematical-logical and abstract thinking skills
  • Independent, careful and results-orientated work
  • Frustration tolerance
  • ability to work in a team
  • good command of English

A detailed description of the admission requirements can be found in the Special Provisions of the Examination Regulations (BBPO).

Study programme

The modules of the Bachelor's degree programme in computer science include lectures, project work and practical stages. Almost all modules include a work placement with a maximum of 16 students, which is usually supervised by the professors themselves.

  • A detailed description of the programme content can be found in the module handbook.
  • An overview of the individual modules in the programme can be found in the module diagram.

The Bachelor's degree qualifies students for a career, but also enables them to transfer to Master's degree programmes (see diagram).
