Driving tests on automotive security at the airfield in Griesheim
As part of the Automotive Security System Development Master's project, driving tests were carried out at the airfield in Griesheim in mid-July together with the EIT faculty. A Renault Twizy, a VW ID.3 and a Tesla Model 3 were involved.
Objectives
All e-vehicles were equipped with measurement technology so that the communication in the on-board network could be recorded during the various driving manoeuvres. The aim was to analyse the communication via the various Controller Area Network (CAN) buses in order to reconstruct the structure of the individual messages. As part of the PSE, a tool for the automated creation of a so-called Database CAN (DBC) file was created for this purpose. This DBC file then serves as the basis for carrying out targeted attacks on the vehicle, for example to specifically control actuators. An attack tool is also being developed for this purpose as part of the PSE.
The EIT faculty focussed on the topic of electrical energy flows in various driving situations. Further information can be found in the EIT faculty's press release.
