Integrating privacy into the electric vehicle charging architecture
The electric vehicle (EV) charging architecture consists of multiple actors communicating with different protocols. A serious problem is the lack of appropriate privacy measures, which allows the creation of movement profiles or inferences about the habits of all actors involved.
In the paper "Integrating privacy into the electric vehicle charging architecture", researchers from the ACSD research group propose an extension of a Trusted Platform Module (TPM)-based Direct Anonymous Attestation (DAA) procedure to enable privacy-compliant charging authorisation and billing. The solution can be easily integrated into existing plug-and-charge (PnC) EV charging architecture protocols and introduces minimal overhead. Formal analysis with the Tamarin Prover demonstrates the security and privacy of the protocol extension. The paper is available here .
