Together with Prof. Christian Rathgeb, he heads the da/sec research group. His research interests lie in the fields of IT security and signal processing. He is also a professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

On behalf of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), he was the project coordinator responsible for the BioIS, BioFace and BioFinger, BioKeyS Pilot-DB and KBEinweg project series – all of which deal with biometric applications in general and performance and security testing in detail. He initiated several projects in the European research programme (e.g. 3D-Face, FIDELITY and iMARS). In addition, he was/is a partner in the TURBINE, BEST Network, ORIGINS, INGRESS, PIDaaS, SOTAMD, RESPECT, TReSPAsS, EINSTEIN and CarMen projects. He is also Principal Investigator at the National Research Centre for Applied Cybersecurity (ATHENE).

Christoph Busch was also co-founder of the CAST Forum, established in 1999. He is also co-founder of the European Association for Biometrics (www.eab.org), which now has over 200 institutional members. In 2020, he founded the Steinbeis Research Centre BISE – Biometrics. Christoph Busch is co-author of over 700 technical articles and has given presentations at international conferences. He has been a member of various programme committees (NIST IBPC, NIST IFPC, IJCB, ICPR, CVPR, IWBF, ICIP, BSI Congress, EUROGRAPHICS) and a reviewer for various conferences, journals and magazines (e.g. ACM-SIGGRAPH, ACM-TISSEC, IEEE CG&A, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, on Information Forensics and Security, on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence and the Elsevier Journal Computers & Security). He is also a member of the editorial board of the IET journal for biometrics and previously worked for the IEEE TIFS journal. In addition, he heads the biometrics working group of the TeleTrusT association and the German standardisation organisation for biometrics (DIN-NIA37). He is also convenor of Working Group 3 in ISO/IEC JTC1 SC37 for biometrics.
