h_da computer scientists support the Hessian State Office of Criminal Investigation with new biometric methods in cyber forensics
In the "Bio4ensics" research project, biometrics specialists from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da) are supporting the Hessian State Office of Criminal Investigation (HLKA) in the fight against child pornography. They are using new biometric methods in cyber forensics.
The challenge: biometric facial recognition of children is not yet fully developed and the error rate is high. The h_da researchers have now achieved a breakthrough here: they fed the algorithm with artificially generated biometric data from children's faces and were thus able to help ensure that real children's faces are recognised better than before in the flood of data.
