Statement of the deanery on the war in Ukraine
With the following email, the entire Dean's Office of the Faculty of Computer Science takes a stand on the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine:
Dear students and colleagues
I am writing to you today on behalf of the entire Dean's Office of the Faculty of Computer Science regarding the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine. This text is appearing very late, but we ourselves were simply speechless after 24 February 2022 and it is still difficult to find the right words in view of the suffering of the people in Ukraine, the many refugees and the horrors of war.We condemn the attack on Ukraine, the current attempts to decide the war by increasingly harsh attacks on all people in Ukraine, the oppression of the people in the Russian Federation and the threats of Putin and his regime to the world and especially to us here in Europe.
especially to us here in Europe.
In the Faculty of Computer Science, we stand for open and non-discriminatory interaction with one another, regardless of gender, origin and religion. It is therefore particularly important now not to judge or attack people on the basis of their Russian or Belarusian origin.
or Belarusian origin.
It is very important for us to express our support for Ukraine and its people, but what good are words if we do not follow them up with action? Many of you are probably already involved in one way or another, but what can we do as a department?
faculty do?
We can prepare for the admission of students from Ukraine, but certainly also from Russia and Belarus, and expand our English-language programmes, offer mentoring by students, staff and professors and establish contacts with Ukrainian universities and offer support.
Ukrainian universities and offer support. We would also like to explicitly support the 11 Ukrainian students at our Faculty of Computer Science.
If you have any further ideas or suggestions, please feel free to contact the Dean's Office directly.
Let's hope for an early end to the war!

Dean
