Final theses

It should be obvious: the Bachelor's or Master's thesis is due, the topic has perhaps already been decided and the thesis has been registered. But the pages remain blank, questions about the meaning of the degree crop up unasked and you are left with the feeling that you are not really prepared for what might come afterwards.

Completing the course outline can raise many questions - emotional or technical. This can lead to writer's block, encourage procrastination, trigger anxiety and build up internal pressure or create a general feeling of being overwhelmed. Familiar stress symptoms can also resurface.

Take yourself seriously if you notice such signs or other symptoms of stress. Seek support and talk to others!

On the department's website, you will find lots of practical information about the graduation phase – from registration and organisation to writing your exposé and formatting templates.

Initial information on academic work, what needs to be considered and how to give a good presentation can be found in the Moodle of the Student Trainer Pool (various courses). Individual support in structuring your work (not content) is also available in the h_da writing lab.

An overview of various writing techniques and general suggestions for structuring a thesis can also be found here. There is also an overview specifically for academic writing in computer science (in German only).

An initial guide to overcoming writer's block is provided in this overview (in German only). Please feel free to contact the Psychological Counseling for advice; together we can look for possible solutions.
