LaTeX
WYSIWYG editors such as Microsoft Word or LibreOffice can exhibit some misbehaviour, especially for some scientific texts that contain many formulas, source code or figures, or that exceed a certain number of pages. LaTeX has proven to be a good alternative for papers and Bachelor's or Master's theses.
Tex editors
There are a number of good online and offline editors for LaTeX. The LaTeX code itself should be maintained in a versioning system, e.g. in GitLab. A selection of editors can be found here:
- ShareLatex and OverLeaf (online)
- TeXstudio (Linux, Windows, MacOS)
- Texmaker (Linux, Windows, MacOS)
Tex literature
There is a whole range of good literature on LaTeX and how to use it. A selection of resources available online can be found here:
- LaTeX - Advanced Application (M. Jürgens)
- Introduction to LaTeX (N. Schwarz)
Tex-Templates
For LaTeX users, it is a great advantage to work with a template that can be easily customised to your needs instead of starting with a completely blank document. A LaTeX template from the FBI for creating the paper can be found at:
Both templates are identical.
