impact article "Wenn der Campus mit dem Orbit spricht" (German version)

Research International

In the Erasmus+-funded Blended Intensive Programme at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, young researchers are working together with partners from France and Italy on systems that secure disaster communication and at the same time open up potential for the 6G mobile communications generation. The focus is on building a satellite ground station that uses SDR technology to digitise radio signals, make them visible and controllable worldwide. In international teams, students develop practical installations, web interfaces and documentation, while others work on antennas, signal processing and hardware.

The goal: robust emergency networks that function even during power outages and connect regions via satellite. The projects emphasise that radio is not magic, but craftsmanship and coding – learning across borders and nationalities. The project also serves as a building block for future 6G communication, in which mobile phones could communicate directly with orbit.
