FAQ

Global networking via the Internet, video streaming, self-driving cars and the control of mobile phones are just a few examples of the influence of computer science. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) computer science study programme enables students to contribute to the quality-oriented solution of information technology problems in almost all areas of application in a creative and independent manner. In six semesters, they learn solid technical and methodological basics of computer science as well as their application and implementation in industry and business. These skills are the basis for success in your entire professional life. The study programme is offered by the Faculty of Computer Science, one of the largest and most highly recommended computer science departments at German universities. This is demonstrated by its top positions in the relevant university rankings.

The modules of the Bachelor's degree programme in computer science include lectures, project work and practical stages. Almost all modules include a work placement with a maximum of 16 students, which is usually supervised by the professors themselves. A detailed description of the programme content can be found in the module handbook.

Yes, a computer, along with pen and paper, is the tool of the trade for a computer scientist. You will need a computer - preferably a laptop - to prepare and follow up work placement assignments in addition to attending lectures and practicals. You can find a recommendation regarding computer equipment here.

Our graduates are employed in many different professions. In general, the computer science degree is a good basis for an exciting, varied, challenging and usually well-paid profession with very good prospects. With your degree, you can work in many industries, including automotive, finance, environment, medicine, education, media - computer science is everywhere. The job profiles are correspondingly diverse.

The study programme qualifies you for professional positions in the following areas, among others:

  • Software development, design, testing, maintenance and integration
  • System consulting and user training
  • Development and support of databases and networks
  • Web development and development of mobile applications
  • e-business
  • Game development, edutainment and infotainment

It is generally possible to transfer from another university, e.g. TU Darmstadt, as long as you have not lost your eligibility to study, e.g. by not passing an examination. The same applies to the transfer of credits already passed. In any case, please contact the head of degree programme in good time and discuss your specific individual case.

The first place of contact for most general questions about the Course outline is the Student Service Centre, SSC for short. In addition to general student advice and information on the details of the application procedure, it also provides advice on organising or financing your course outline.

For the computer science study programme, you can contact the programme coordinator at any time.
