IT security
The IT Security department at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (spokesperson: Prof. Dr Christoph Krauß) has set itself the task of coordinating the subject area of IT security in education and research and making it more visible at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Reference projects on IT security at h_da can be found here.
In addition to members from various faculties at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences - currently computer science, social sciences and social work - doctoral students from the National Research Centre for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE are also actively involved in the group's activities.
With the cooperative study programme IT Security (KITS) and the compulsory course IT Security in the first semester of the Bachelor's degree programme in Computer Science, h_da is sustainably strengthening teaching in this field.
Since November 2009, the Master's degree programme in Computer Science has another specialisation: IT Security. The new specialisation was created as part of h_da's participation in the "Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED)" - now ATHENE.
SPO2013 students who opt for this specialisation must complete at least 24 ECTS credits from the associated security course catalogue during the first stage of their studies (i.e. semesters 1 to 3) and then work on a Master's thesis on a suitable IT security topic. Students of SPO2006 must complete at least 30 ECTS from the "IT Security" course catalogue.
Students receive confirmation of their specialisation in their Master's certificate.
Summer semester 2025
Since the summer semester 2010, there has been a teaching cooperation between the two faculties of computer science at TU Darmstadt and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Within this framework, some courses are offered to students from the other institution.
The cooperation relates to courses from the curriculum of the "TUD-Master IT-Security", the "h_da-Master Computer Science with specialisation in IT Security", as well as "Bachelor KITS".
HDA students in the SPO 2013 can have a maximum of 12 ECTS from courses in the TUD catalogue recognised. Corresponding ECTS are assigned to the AS catalogue at h_da. (Note: This corresponds to half of the ECTS required for the IT Security specialisation).
HDA students in the SPO 2006 can import a maximum of 15 ECTS from courses in the TUD catalogue. All modules imported from TU Darmstadt are assigned to the AS catalogue in the Master's degree.
